LOIRE LODGE

Loire Valley, France

Competition Entry

2014

'Bothy'

A competition entry for a cabin for hikers and cyclists on the Loire River in the south of France.

The typical 'Loge' acts as a shelter in it's most basic form. The one room structure provides necessary respite from the elements set within beautiful natural landscapes.

The proposal seeks to create a simple single room for weary cyclists enjoying the Loire Valley routes that can be enjoyed both inside and out.

The structure will allow both short term respite and overnight shelter. It also seeks to enhance use for both fair and adverse weather by creating an external bench and terrace to enjoy the Loire landscape as well as an internal bench/bed with wood burning stove for stop overs on cold spring / autumn nights.

The Bothy presents a hard protective face to the path while opening up to the river allowing the weary cyclist the opportunity to pause and reflect on the unique landscape.
